Denise Comeau - Artist
|
Denise likes to emphasize her attachment
to St. Mary's Bay. While her works have a universal dimension
and explore all kinds of themes from a variety of approaches,
she is keen on contributing to people's awareness of this
little-known French-speaking region and expressing some of
the things which she feels are unique to the region, including:
its magnificent seascapes, with the Bay's superb sunsets;
a proximity to nature; a quiet and peaceful way of life; the
Acadians' attachment to their community and to their language,
with its unique accent and its vocabulary, rich in old French
phrases and words borrowed from the fishing trade; the inhabitants'
hospitality and the simplicity of their lifestyle; and many
more things.
Denise paints both in her Comeauville studio and outdoors.
One of the ingredients of the artist's success is the way
she uses landscapes, buildings and objects to convey skindeep
emotions. Her technique, free of any kind of
|
 |
artificiality, alternates between spontaneity and chaos, all the while
preserving the balance between emotions and intellect.
In her works, Denise uses a variety of combinations of techniques
and materials: pastels, acrylic, oil pastels, collages, etc. She also
draws inspiration from her trips abroad (to France in particular).
The titles of her paintings often use Acadian words, thus adding to
the unique quality of her work. The sizes of Denise's works cover
a wide spectrum as well, ranging from 3x3 inches for the smallest
ones to 30x40 inches, or even bigger, for certain works.
